I Finally Got Tesla Cybertruck Recall But They Said They Don’t Have the Parts, I Guess It Might Take 5 Years to Fix

Imagine spending $80,000 or more on a brand-new Tesla Cybertruck… and just weeks later, you get a recall notice — not for something minor, but for a piece that can literally fly off while driving.

Now imagine being told: “We can’t fix it yet.”

That’s exactly what Cybertruck owner BC LeViet is going through right now. In a frustrated Facebook post, BC wrote:

“I finally received my Tesla Cybertruck cant rail recall notice. I guess they’ll replace mine in five years’ time.”

He’s not alone. Dozens of owners are sharing similar stories as Tesla begins to roll out one of the most surprising — and disappointing — recall experiences for the Cybertruck so far.

What Is the Cant Rail, and Why Is It Being Recalled?

The cant rail is a long stainless steel trim panel that runs across the top of the Cybertruck’s windshield and door pillars. It’s part of the vehicle’s aggressive, angular design — and it’s supposed to stay in place.

But according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), that’s not always happening.

Tesla is recalling over 46,000 Cybertrucks built between November 2023 and February 2025 because the cant rail may detach while driving — due to an adhesive that can fail over time.

One owner even reported their cant rail flying off at 55 mph. No one was hurt, but it highlights just how serious the issue could be.

Here’s the Real Problem: No Parts to Fix It

Tesla started sending out recall notices on May 19, 2025. But owners like BC quickly realized the notice isn’t a solution — it’s a “hurry up and wait” letter.

“At this time, there is no action you need to take,” the Tesla letter says.

“The replacement cant rail for your vehicle is not yet available. We will notify you when parts are available.”

So, what are owners supposed to do in the meantime? Wait… possibly for months.

Why Can’t Tesla Fix It Now?

Tesla says it’s still sourcing upgraded parts, including a new adhesive and a welded stud that will secure the cant rail better. The company is also prioritizing fixes on production vehicles first — meaning Cybertrucks that haven’t been delivered yet are getting the fix before existing customers.

That’s not sitting well with some early adopters who feel like beta testers with luxury price tags.

Cybertruck owner Leo Nguyen visited a service center on May 20 and was told:

“Tesla does not have any remedy yet… it may be a couple more months before they have the parts. I also noticed there were a bunch of Cybertrucks sitting in the lot.”

Another owner, Joe Giamanco, had a cant rail rattling above 70 mph and finally got a repair date two months after his initial request.

Is It a Safety Risk?

Tesla says no — you can continue to drive your Cybertruck while you wait.

But when trim pieces are flying off, owners are understandably worried. And while Tesla claims there have been no known accidents or injuries, the idea of a loose piece of stainless steel detaching on the highway is unsettling.

Cybertruck owners can check their vehicle’s recall status using the Tesla VIN Recall Tool or the NHTSA’s VIN tool.

What Will the Fix Involve?

According to Tesla and the NHTSA:

  • The cant rail will be fully replaced with a new version
  • The new version will use improved adhesive
  • A stud and nut reinforcement will be added to secure it
  • The fix will be free of charge and take about an hour

That’s the good news. The bad news? There’s no timeline yet for when most owners will actually get the fix.

The Bigger Picture: Recalls Are Normal, Delays Aren’t

Recalls happen with every car brand. But Tesla’s challenge is different: it’s trying to scale production, manage service centers, and deliver cutting-edge tech — all at once.

The Cybertruck was always going to be a wild ride. But for many early buyers, the real disappointment isn’t just the defect — it’s the long wait for a fix and the lack of clear communication.

What Owners Are Saying

The Cybertruck community is torn. Some owners are staying patient, others are getting fed up:

  • BC LeViet: “They’ll fix mine in five years’ time.”
  • Leo Nguyen: “No fix yet. Could be months.”
  • Joe Giamanco: “It took two months to get a repair date after I reported the issue.”
